MP: Funeral procession halts as minister gives bite to TV

Bhopal: Agriculture minister Gauri Shankar Bisen, known for courting controversies was at it again. The maverick minister had even said he is all set to buy six pairs of shoes without laces. Earlier, in 2012- shoe-lace tying controversy, Bisen had to apologise for making a young boy to tie his shoelaces. "How can someone stop a funeral procession, just to appear on TV?," he asked.Of 13 people who died in Harrai, five belonged to a family from Bichua village, located close to Bargi village where the incident took place. "Bisen should feel ashamed for using such an occasion to take political mileage.

Bhopal: Agriculture minister Gauri Shankar Bisen, known for courting controversies was at it again. Bisen, on Saturday stopped the funeral procession of those who were charred in kerosene shop blaze in Chhindwara district to give a bite to a TV channel on Saturday.Villagers carrying the bodies on their shoulders waited till the minister concluded his bite.Bisen who is in-charge of the Chhindwara district, was shouldering one of the bodies when media persons approached him and he stopped to respond to their queries.The insensitive act by the minister drew flak from the opposition Congress party that demanded his resignation."Bisen should feel ashamed for using such an occasion to take political mileage. Instead, he should apologise to the people for how government's carelessness and lack of security initiatives led to mass casualties in his district," said Pankaj Chaturvedi, Congress spokesperson."How can someone stop a funeral procession, just to appear on TV?," he asked.Of 13 people who died in Harrai, five belonged to a family from Bichua village, located close to Bargi village where the incident took place. One of the deceased, Sandeep Dahariya, 22, from Bichua village was to get married on April 29, said police.The charred bodies were handed to their family members on Saturday morning after autopsy, following which last rites were performed.Meanwhile, police have registered a case against unidentified people under Section 436 (Mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house), Section 304 (Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and Section 285 (Negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) of IPC.District collector JK Jain told media that that all victims have been identified and their bodies have handed over to their family members.Bisen did not respond to calls for his version on the matter.The minister had been in controversies several times in the last six years. Earlier, in 2012- shoe-lace tying controversy, Bisen had to apologise for making a young boy to tie his shoelaces. Bisen had then vowed to wear only lace-less footwear henceforth. The maverick minister had even said he is all set to buy six pairs of shoes without laces.
