Law & Order: Congress seeks home minister’s resignation

The protest march, demanding the resignation of Bhupendra Singh , was led by AICC general secretary in-charge of MP affairs Deepak Babaria and state Congress president Arun Yadav. We are seeking his resignation because the government has proved ineffective in controlling the law and order situation. A huge police contingent was deployed and the road blocked with barricades at the very next crossing, near Red Cross Hospital. "PCC chief Arun Yadav said the state was going through a phase of 'total jungle raaj.'

BHOPAL: Congress workers were left injured on Thursday after police resorted to lathicharge and opened up water cannons on them while they were protesting the increasing incidents of crimes against women in the state.On Thursday morning, a crowd of Congress workers gathered at the state PCC office on to 'gherao' home minister Bhupendra Singh's residence. The protest march, demanding the resignation of Bhupendra Singh , was led by AICC general secretary in-charge of MP affairs Deepak Babaria and state Congress president Arun Yadav. A huge police contingent was deployed and the road blocked with barricades at the very next crossing, near Red Cross Hospital. When Congress workers tried to breach barricades and tried to climb them to cross over, police opened water-cannons and resorted to lathi-charge."Three protestors including district Congress vicepresident and corporator Suraj Tiwari have sustained injuries in the chest and back and have been admitted in Red Cross Hospital," said state PCC chief spokesman KK Mishra.Speaking to reporters, Deepak Babaria said, "With the kind of heinous crimes happening in the state against women, the home minister needs to step down immediately. We are seeking his resignation because the government has proved ineffective in controlling the law and order situation."PCC chief Arun Yadav said the state was going through a phase of 'total jungle raaj.' "The government is helpless as crimes against women are on the rise. The Congress party will fight this on the streets and in the state assembly," he said.State Mahila Congress president Mandvi Chouhan said "We will 'gherao' the home minister's residence on Friday evening and gift him one lakh bangles to remind him of the rapes and gang rapes (happening) in the state."
