Big names skip Vyapam chargesheet date in court

As many as 245 are fresh names, including the owners of medial colleges and two former directorate of medical education officials.Those listed in the chargesheet include J N Choksey, chairman of LN Medical College, S N Vijaywargiya of People's Medical College, Ajay Goenka of Chirayu Medical College (all in Bhopal) and Suresh Singh Bhadoriya of Index Medical College, Indore. Party chief spokesman K K Mishra said, "The names of the protectors of the medical education mafia are missing from the list of accused in the chargesheet. In addition, about 34 more accused — including director of LNCT Medical College, D K Satpathi, who is former director of medico legal institute at Gandhi Medical College — had also filed for anticipatory bail. The judge granted bail to the rest present in court on bond and surety of Rs 1lakh each.Congress launched a scathing attack on CBI.

BHOPAL: CBI on Thursday filed a supplementary chargesheet in a Vyapam scam relating to the 2012 PMT, naming 592 accused — including some of the high and mighty in medical education . All the big names implicated by CBI stayed away from court, fearing arrest.Special judge D P Mishra reserved his decision on their anticipatory bail, but granted regular bail to the 20 accused, who appeared in court on Thursday after receiving the CBI notice. He ordered arrest warrants against all the accused, who skipped the hearing, barring those that have applied for anticipatory bail.The chairmen of four private medical colleges and two former officers of medical education department are among the 592 named in the chargesheet. The two former DME officials are ex-director S C Tiwari and former joint director N M Shrivastav.Goenka's bail was denied, say sources. Hearing of bail applications was on till past midnght.All of them had filed applications for anticipatory bail in the court of district & sessions judge on Wednesday. In addition, about 34 more accused — including director of LNCT Medical College, D K Satpathi, who is former director of medico legal institute at Gandhi Medical College — had also filed for anticipatory bail. All the applications were transferred for hearing in the court of special judge Mishra on Thursday.The judge, after hearing the arguments of counsels from CBI and various accused, reserved his decision for Friday. While the CBI counsel opposed bail, lawyers for the influential accused pleaded that their clients have cooperated with the investigation and at this late stage, there was no need of their custodial interrogation. The judge granted bail to the rest present in court on bond and surety of Rs 1lakh each.Congress launched a scathing attack on CBI. Party chief spokesman K K Mishra said, "The names of the protectors of the medical education mafia are missing from the list of accused in the chargesheet. Former controller of the Dental and Medical Admission Test (DMAT) Yogesh Chandra Uprit's statement has been overlooked.""It is Uprit, who in his statement had admitted that as soon as a minister took charge of the medical education department, he was paid Rs 10 crore," Mishra said. "Why has CBI not considered that statement? " Mishra asked.
