Patriotic fervour warms up cold morning in city on Republic Day

Tribune News ServiceChandigarh January 27Patriotic fervour warmed up the cold winter morning in Chandigarh on Tuesday as residents and officials of the UT Administration enthusiastically gathered at Parade Ground Sector 17 to celebrate Republic Day. Manoj Parida Adviser to the UT Administrator was the chief guest. From there Parida reached the main venue of the Republic Day function where he unfurled the National Flag and inspected a guard of honour. This was followed by a march past by various contingents of the police participating in the Republic Day parade. Ten police personnel were also conferred the Administrator's Police Medal for distinguished and meritorious service while two police personnel were awarded the President's Medal.

Tribune News Service Chandigarh January 27 Patriotic fervour warmed up the cold winter morning in Chandigarh on Tuesday as residents and officials of the UT Administration enthusiastically gathered at Parade Ground Sector 17 to celebrate Republic Day. Manoj Parida Adviser to the UT Administrator was the chief guest. The Adviser laid a wreath at the War Memorial at Bougainvillea Garden in memory of members of the armed forces who sacrificed their lives for the country. From there Parida reached the main venue of the Republic Day function where he unfurled the National Flag and inspected a guard of honour. This was followed by a march past by various contingents of the police participating in the Republic Day parade. Parida addressed the audience and highlighted the initiatives and achievements of the Administration such as setting up of 10 vaccination centres and construction of four new government school buildings which will be made functional from the next academic session. The Adviser gave commendation certificates to 24 awardees for rendering outstanding services in the field of public service art and culture sports and social services. Ten police personnel were also conferred the Administrators Police Medal for distinguished and meritorious service while two police personnel were awarded the Presidents Medal. The Adviser also met freedom fighters present at the Parade Ground. This was followed by a vibrant parade comprising tableaux from different departments. Parida awarded best contingents of the parade. The CRPF received the overall best award in the parade. In the military force and police category the first prize was bagged by the CRPF whereas the Chandigarh Police (Female-1) got the second position and the Punjab Police Armed came third.
