  • | Wednesday | 14th May, 2025

Delhis Environment Minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, said on Tuesday that the Delhi Archives Department will hold a public exhibition. It will display rare historical documents and old government records. The Minister said the exhibition will help people learn more about Delhis rich history. It will also show the important role of Sikh culture, as the department holds many records linked to Sikh religious places and old Sikh writings from before Indias independence. This announcement came after the Minister recently visited the Delhi Archives Department at the Qutub Institutional Area. There, he checked how the department stores and looks after its records. During the visit, he looked at many preserved items such as government files, letters, old maps, and important manuscripts. He was also shown how the department protects and restores old documents. This includes using modern tools like a microfilm reader and German technology to keep over 5 crore pages safe for the long term. The Minister looked at documents about the growth of religious institutions in Delhi, including those related to Sikh history. Officials at the department also told him about the problems they face, such as lack of space and resources. The Delhi Archives is very important for protecting the history of our Capital. I have listened to the issues and will work with the right people to help improve the department, said Sirsa. He added that the exhibition will help bring these valuable records closer to the public, especially young people. This will help them better understand Delhis culture and religious history. The Minister also visited the Bhagat Singh Archives and Research Centre during his earlier visit, where he reviewed historical records, including personal correspondences and political writings from the freedom struggle. The Delhi Archives was set up in 1972. It is the official record-keeping body of the Delhi government. Since 1986, it has been located in its own building. The department keeps many important items like books, maps, photographs, and files, which help tell the story of Delhis government and culture.
