FARIDABAD: A 33-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly cheating a retired Air Force officer by fraudulently changing his ATM card and withdrawing approximately Rs 1.6 lakh from his account. According to the police, the accused has been identified as Krishna, alias Bhola, from Palwals Bhadram.On September 4, a complaint was filed against an unidentified accused at Sector 8 police station by Mahinder Singh, an ex-Air Force officer. Singh, a resident of Sector 8 in Faridabad, claimed that he was tricked by two men who swiftly replaced his ATM card with a fake one on September 1, when he had gone to an ATM kiosk to withdraw money."On September 1, Mohinder Singh visited a Punjab National Bank ATM to withdraw Rs 3,000. He was travelling to Ludhiana that day and needed the money to book his train tickets. Despite making three attempts, he was unable to withdraw the cash. Subsequently, two men approached the ATM and offered him help. Singh agreed, but even the two men failed to withdraw the money. Later, while on the train, Singh received multiple messages indicating that more than Rs 1 lakh had been withdrawn from his account. He then inquired with his wife about the whereabouts of his PNB card and learned that instead of a PNB card, his wallet contained a fake card. It was at that moment that he realised that he had been cheated," said police spokesperson Sube Singh.An FIR was filed under IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach) at Sector 8 police station on September 4 .
