GURGAON: A labourer was killed when a 20ft wall at Mall of Faridabad located near NIT Bus Port came crashing down while it was being demolished on Saturday afternoon. He suffered severe injuries on his head. Labourers at the site alleged they were asked to start demolishing the wall from its bottom, and not the top, which led to the accident.Rajendra Yadav (45) was from Nalanda in Bihar. Another labourer managed to escape unhurt when the wall crashed. One of the labourers said they were not provided with any protective gear while carrying out the work. We rushed him to BK hospital in an autorickshaw on our own and the engineer, who was at the spot, stood as a mute spectator, he said. Rajendra had been working at the mall for around 25 days.Rajendra lived in Faridabads AC Nagar with his son and nephew.Rajendras son Upendra Yadav told TOI that he had not come home for three days. My father had been working day and night at the mall. I received a call from his fellow labourers who said my father suffered injuries in the wall collapse. I reached there to find him lying in a pool of blood. We rushed him to the hospital in an autorickshaw. People at the mall or from the construction company offered no help. He was declared brought dead at the hospital.He was not given any protective gear like safety belt and helmet. His life could have been saved if he was given a helmet. The wall fell on his head. This happened because of negligence of the contractor. He should be punished, he added.Chetan, SHO of NIT-2 police station, said, We have sent the body for autopsy which will be conducted on Sunday. We have filed a report based on the sons complaint, but no FIR has been lodged so far. We will proceed with the case after the autopsy.When asked why protective gear was not provided to the labourers, the contractor, who reached the hospital later, said he was in Surajkund and had no idea about the situation.
