More than 16,000 get jabs on Day 1 for 45+

While Gautam Budh Nagar had a target of 10,000, Ghaziabad’s target was 14,000 for the day. In Ghaziabad, 7,811 people were inoculated under the fourth phase and in Noida 8,243 people got the shots.Four adverse event following immunisation (AEFI) cases were recorded in Ghaziabad. No such cases were reported in GB Nagar.

More than 16,000 people were vaccinated on the first day under the fourth phase of the drive in both districts. While Noida recorded an 82% coverage, for neighbouring Ghaziabad, the figure was a little over 66%.
The vaccination drive for people above 45 years was conducted across 88 centres in Gautam Budh Nagar and 96 centres in Ghaziabad on Thursday.

While Gautam Budh Nagar had a target of 10,000, Ghaziabad’s target was 14,000 for the day. In Ghaziabad, 7,811 people were inoculated under the fourth phase and in Noida 8,243 people got the shots.
Four adverse event following immunisation (AEFI) cases were recorded in Ghaziabad. No such cases were reported in GB Nagar.

The two districts administered both Covishield and Covaxin on Thursday. According to officials, more footfall was recorded in urban areas compared to rural pockets. Some people also got their second doses on Thursday.
In Gautam Budh Nagar, district magistrate Suhas LY and nodal officer in-charge of Covid care Narendra Bhooshan took their second dose of Covishield at the Government Institute of Medical Science (GIMS), Greater Noida.

The DM said: “We should trust data, evidence, science and scientists more than any assumptions about the vaccines based on unverified reports. I urge everyone in the district who is above 45 years of age to go and get the vaccine.”

Bhooshan, who turned 52 last month, said he did not feel any discomfort after taking the jab. “The Covid vaccine will help break the chain and it is needed now especially because the number of cases is rising. I request all the residents to get themselves vaccinated.”

A total of 8,583 people took the jabs in the district on Thursday and of them, 8,243 were in the 45+ category.
“We recorded 82.4% coverage. The state government has given the district a target of 1,62,000 for this phase for the month of April. Of the 88 centres that conducted the drive on Thursday, 49 were government and 39 were private facilities,” said Dr Neeraj Tyagi, district immunisation officer in-charge of Covid vaccination, Gautam Budh Nagar.

Dr Akash Raj, medical superintendent, Child PGI, Noida, Sector 30, said that there was a rush at the centre in the morning.

“We were running two booths but because of the rush, we started three registration counters. By 11.30 am, we had vaccinated around 150 people,” he said. Usually the drive is conducted from 9 am to 5pm in government and private facilities. Raj added that most people who took the jab were in the 45+ category.

Sharda Hospital, Greater Noida, vaccinated about 180 people and of them, about 150 were 45+. Metro Hospital at Sector 11 vaccinated about 160 people and 130 of them were 45+.

At Fortis, Sector 62, 150 people were inoculated and 111 were in the 45+ group.In Ghaziabad 7,811 people in the 45+ category took the shots on Thursday. While 744 senior citizens got the jabs, 567 healthcare and 187 frontline workers also got their first and second shots.

In the district, most people (440) were vaccinated at the District Combined Hospital, followed by 376 at Shastri Nagar Urban Primary Health Centre.

District magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey said: “We were able to vaccinate 9,309 people, including healthcare workers, frontline workers, and 7,811 people above 45 years of age. The District Combined Hospital is the largest immunisation centre in Ghaziabad and 440 people were inoculated there.”

He added that at the 34 public health centres, 3,970 people were given the shots, while 717 residents were inoculated at different health and wellness centres.

At the District Combined Hospital (DCH) and District Women’s Hospital, a rush was seen around 9 am when the drive started.

DCH chief medical superintendent Dr Sanjay Teotia said: “Many people aged above 60 years came to take the vaccine. By 1 pm, 225 people had been inoculated. Due to a rush in the morning, a police force was called in to maintain discipline.”Sources said Ghaziabad faced shortage of vaccines at several centres in Khoda, Vijay Nagar and Vasundhara.
A total of 2,09,103 people were vaccinated in the state on Thursday, according to figures shared at 8 pm.
