Ghaziabad: For the third consecutive day, dusty and gusty winds swept the capital on Thursday. Weatherman said that strong dust-raising winds continue to sweep over Delhi-NCR due to the pressure gradient between Haryana and Gujarat and the presence of a cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and neighbouring Pakistan on Tuesday.

Gusty winds of 40- 50 kmph were recorded on Thursday, with PM10 as the lead pollutant due to the transportation of dust. Met officials said that wind speed would start decreasing from Friday. Kuldeep Srivastava, scientist at India Meteorological Department, and head, Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, said, “Pressure gradient is the force that moves air from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure. If the pressure gradient is strong, the wind speed is high and vice versa.”

The overall Air Quality Index level of Delhi was recorded at 182 in ‘moderate’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
