Ghaziabad schools get a week to finish RTE admissions

GHAZIABAD: The basic education department conducted a meeting headed by the district magistrate on Monday following the schools refusal to take admission of over 2,000 RTE (Right to Education) students in the city. Representatives from a total of 22 schools from across the city were present at the meeting. The meeting was scheduled after department received several complaints that private schools are denying admission to the students who are allocated seats under the RTE quota. Schools have been given one week to complete all admissions under RTE following the meeting. On Monday, 26 schools were called, and presented their data. The DM has ordered that if the schools do not complete the admission process by one week, the registration of the schools will be canceled. The school list includes few of the significant ones in the city, said Gambhir Singh, the ADM of Ghaziabad.According to the parents, the private schools have been denying these students admission by citing insufficient documents, despite all the necessary documents having been submitted.In the name of document verification, schools are even sending staff to students homes. This is against the RTE rule. Moreover, several parents, even after submitting all relevant documents, are being denied admission. Its almost the middle of the current academic session and students have still not got admission, said Vivek Tyagi, president of the Parent Association in Ghaziabad.My daughters admission has been refused by the school, saying that the seats are full for the year. If I have got the seat allocation from the BSA office, then how come the seats are full in the school already? said Chetan, who wants to admit his daughter to a private school in the city under RTE quota.Speaking on the matter, basic shiksha adhikari OP Yadav said, Some schools were not even present at the meeting. The district administration will send further notices to them. For the rest of the schools, if after one week of time given, they dont take admission, we will take strict action against them.Under the RTE Act 2009, 25 per cent of seats in each private school have to be reserved for students who are not able to bear the expenditure of education and tuition fee of private schools. So far, in the city, 5,841 students have been allocated seats for RTE admissions. Despite this, till September 10, only 3,296 admissions have been finalised.
