Ghaziabad: Fifteen persons were arrested from Karhera colony in the district for allegedly persuading residents to convert to Christianity and practise the religion.Police said they acted on a complaint by a local resident, Subhash Chand, who alleged that religious sessions were being organised in a house in the colony to persuade people to take up Christianity against monetary benefits. Dinesh, the owner of the house where the prayer meets were being held, was among the 15 arrested. The complainant alleged that Dinesh had called some members of the Christian community to speak about religious conversion and persuade people with monetary benefits. After he lodged a complaint, we registered a case under relevant sections of the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, said Shubham Patel, DCP (trans-Hindon).Police said that on Monday, they came across a group of people — seven of them women — who arrived at Dineshs house to participate in one such session. They had travelled in a grey van with a Delhi registration number. They told us they had all adopted Christianity and had been called for a prayer meeting at Karhera by Dinesh. People from nearby areas also attended the meeting, where they discussed religion and the power of prayer. They admitted they were planning to persuade more people to join them, Patel said. The 15, police said, had come in touch with one another through a self-styled godman, Bajinder Singh, of Chandigarh.Dinesh would organise the prayer meetings and call people from across NCR to attend them. The Monday meeting, for which he had invited some 100 people, would take place at his house. The participants were told they would be paid for education and health if they adopted Christianity. At times, they would be sent to Chandigarh to attend prayer sessions, the DCP said.Police said they were trying to find out how many people had been converted in the area. An investigation is underway, Patel said.We also published the following articles recentlyAshish Vidyarthi and Rupali Barua respond to trollers who said they were too old to get marriedActor Ashish Vidyarthi and his wife Rupali Barua have responded to criticism and trolling regarding their marriage in a recent interview.
