GHAZIABAD: Garbage is piling up along the 80ft road in Shalimar Garden. Residents said there is a lack of garbage collection points, which makes corporation vehicles dump the garbage on the road. As authorities turn a blind eye, people also have started throwing their garbage out. The situation is turning into a nightmare for residents. The garbage is piling up in the area, especially near the GG farmhouse. It attracts insects and animals, which then thrive, posing health risks, said Jai Dixit, a resident. Sometimes, people also burn the garbage, spiking pollution levels. Whoever throws garbage on the road should face heavy fines. Even as officials claim to be cleaning up the city, nothing is happening on ground, added Dixit. Many vehicles also dump construction debris on the road, said residents. It is becoming difficult to travel on this road. Regular monitoring, research and adaptation of waste management systems are necessary to tackle this problem efficiently and effectively, said Sushila Devi, another resident. Residents claimed the situation is the same in many other locations, including the area near Radha Krishna Marg. All these Swachhata Abhiyan rankings are an eye-wash. On the ground, this city has not improved. In every other block, garbage piles have appeared along roadsides and go unchecked by officials, said Rohit Sharma, another resident. Residents said that the garbage collection points are already chock-a-block, leading to this problem. We have been sharing pictures of the garbage piles on social media platforms and WhatsApp to draw the attention of officials, but there has been no action yet, said a resident. Despite multiple attempts, GMC officials did not comment in the matter.
