Houses & roads get fresh coat: Ghaziabad gears up for RapidX launch

GHAZIABAD: Houses are being given a fresh coat of paint, shrubs and tree branches pruned and roads levelled. Ghaziabad is gearing up for the launch of RapidX — the countrys first semi-high-speed mass transit system — on October 20.Officials said the Prime Minister, who would flag off the first train, would address a gathering at a 2,600sqm ground in Vasundhara Sector 8, which is near Sahibabad station. Members of the Special Protection Group (SPG) visited the site on Tuesday and took stock of the arrangements.Shubham Patel, DCP (trans-Hindon), said more than 50,000 cops would be deployed around the venue. A 500m radius around the ground will be sanitised. For now, we have been carrying out checks in houses and flats in the vicinity, he added.GMC, too, is not leaving any stone unturned with the arrangements. We are working round the clock for the October 20 event. The RAPIDX services will be the nations first railway system with a maximum operational speed of 160 kmph, surpassing metro trains and Indian Railways passenger trains. The RapidX system is designed to reach speeds of 180kmph, although the operational speed will be 160kmph.
