In security detail at IAF base, team to watch out for leopards & nilgais

Ghaziabad: In the hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi lands, a 14-member team of the forest department will be on their toes at the Hindon IAF base on Friday to ward off any threat of wild animals — leopards and nilgai in particular.The team has inspected the Hindon IAF base where the PM will land. Nilgai, deer and wild boars are often spotted in the area, and occasional leopard sightings have been reported, said Manish Singh, district forest officer.PM Modi is expected to land at the base by 10.30am before he leads the ceremony to flag off the priority section of RapidX Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor. Singh said the team includes RK Singh, who specialises in tranquilising wild animals, wildlife warden and 12 other members.They will be stationed at the base to ensure there are no wildlife intrusions when the PM is leaving for the RapidX event. Since leopard sightings have become more common in Ghaziabad over the past few years, and several have been reported from the IAF base, things cannot be left to chance he said.The DFO said preparations were made as Ghaziabad police had written to forest officials about the concern. The priority section of the RRTS will cover 17 kilometers between Duhai and Sahibabad, with five stations. Once completed in 2025, the Delhi-Meerut RRTS will cover 82 kilometers in just an hour. The RRTS, with a maximum speed of 160 kmph, will surpass the speed of metro trains and Indian Railways passenger trains. The first RAPIDX train sets have been manufactured by Alstom in Gujarat.
