GHAZIABAD: A video of a white Kia car moving on the wrong side of the DME near Indirapuram is doing the rounds on social media platforms. Police said the car was on the wrong side for nearly 1-2 km. The offender was going towards Delhi, and a commuter recorded the video.Police said the car number plate is DL9C AZ1497 and identified the car owner as Harish Kumar, a resident of Delhi.Traffic police have issued him a challan of Rs 7,000 and are investigating whether he was driving the car.Ramanand Kushwaha, ADCP (traffic), said initial investigation revealed the offender was going towards Ghaziabad from Delhi when he realised there was no cut or u-turn and started driving on the wrong side. About police presence on the DME, Kushwaha said personnel guard every entry and exit point in Ghaziabad to stop illegal entry/exit of vehicles. Driving on wrong side to save a few minutes and fuel and illegal parking are frequent traffic violations on DME and NH9, which run parallelly. Sometimes, drivers also stop on the DME for a break even though they are not supposed to, which increases the risk of accidents. From January 1 to September 31, the DME and EPE saw 17 deaths by accidents. Recently, on July 11, six of a family died while two recived injuries after a private bus moving on the wrong side of the DME for nearly 8km crashed into their car. CCTV footage showed the bus trying to swerve to the right to avoid a collision but crashing into the car as it steered to its left. Other wrongside driving incidents have also come to light. On July 13, the video of a government car moving on the wrong side started making rounds on social media. Traffic police had issued a challan of Rs 2,000 to the owber but took no other action. NHAI officials said it is not practical to deploy traffic marshals at all entry/exit points. Last year, a few were deployed but later withdrawn after two died in a crash while others were injured trying to stop speeding vehicles.A senior police officer said that a letter was sent to NHAI, seeking traffic spikes on DME and NH9 but it hasnt yet. Then wrong side driving would not be possible, he said. Over 85,000 two-wheelers and 19,000 cars were delivered, representing a 15% and 10% growth respectively compared to the previous year. However, due to new vehicle registration regulations, spot bookings and deliveries were no longer possible, requiring customers to make bookings at least a week in advance. The demand for two-wheelers, especially motorcycles and gearless scooters, has also seen a significant increase. On the other hand, the demand for electric vehicles declined during the festive season.Caste census is a wrong numberThe divide between leaders who support a caste census and those who reject it can be explained by their strategies to win votes. Leaders who prioritize economic growth and effective governance tend to reject the caste census, while those who promise to redistribute resources among different castes embrace it. This contest between growth and redistribution has been a longstanding feature of Indian politics. However, voters in recent years have shown a preference for leaders who deliver high economic growth. CMs who have been repeatedly elected have achieved significant growth rates, while those who have failed to deliver on growth or have been associated with corruption have been rejected by voters.Mahindra Thar drifting goes wrong, rammed into tree: Video viralDrifting, a popular sport in India, can be dangerous, as one man in Kerala discovered. While attempting to drift an SUV in an open field, he lost control and crashed into a coconut tree. Fortunately, the driver escaped unhurt, but the SUV sustained significant damage.
