‘Innocent’ among 2 held for smuggling heroin worth ₹12L

Ghaziabad: Two foreigners were arrested from Kavi Nagar on Sunday for allegedly smuggling brown sugar worth Rs 12 lakh, police said. They have been identified as Innocent (48) from Nigeria and Neema Sebastian (31) from Tanzania..According to cops, Innocent has been living in Vikaspuri since 2019, while Neema has been living in Chandra Vihar since 2022.ADCP (crime) Sachidanand told TOI that on Sunday evening, police got information about two foreigners traveling with brown sugar in Ghaziabad.A team was formed and sent to check them. Police caught them in Kavi Nagar, where the accused were waiting for an auto-rickshaw. We recovered 415 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 12 lakh from the accused, he said.The two accused had known each other for the last four months and worked for an unknown drug dealer in Delhi. They delivered consignments from Delhi to Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Nepal, and Punjab in the past with a charge between Rs 25,000 and Rs 1 lakh, police said.Police teams have been formed to nab the prime suspect while information has been shared with Delhi police. Explaining the modus operandi, ADCP said, The prime accused sends smugglers to some place in Ola. Then, the person takes local transport like an auto-rickshaw or bus to go to the destination, where another person comes to pick up the drugs. After delivery, smugglers return to Delhi. The first time, both accused had gone to Punjab to deliver the items banned under the NDPS Act.ADCP added that Innocent came to India on a tourist visa and is now claiming that he lost his passport and visa.
