5 held for stealing Rs 9.5 lakh, scooter from manager

GHAZIABAD: Five persons were arrested on Friday for allegedly stealing Rs 9.5 lakh and a scooter from a man near Dhobi Ghat bridge.According to police, the accused were identified as Manoj Kumar (28), Rohit (24), Vishwanath (24), Vinay Tiwari (42) and Rahul (25), all residents of Ghaziabad. Vinay, a peon in Guptas office for two years, was the brain behind the robbery.He gave Guptas scooter number and decided the timing and place of the robbery.On November 4, Kamlendu Gupta, a manager at a shop dealing in steel, was returning from Pari Chowk after collecting Rs 9.5 lakh from a trader, when the accused wearing masks stopped him and fled with his scooter along with Rs 9.5 lakh, which was kept in the dicky of the vehicle. The accused overpowered Gupta with a country-made pistol. The resident of Ghaziabad, who works at a steel shop in the Loha Mandi area, lodged an FIR at Vijay Nagar police station on Saturday.Cops increased check posts in the area, after receiving information that one of the accused would cross Vijay Nagar on Thursday night. Two people on a bike were asked to stop but they took a sharp u-turn and tried to escape. After being chased by the cops, one of them opened fire. During the retaliation, one of the accused who was riding the bike, received a bullet injury, while his associate fled from the spot, said Nipun Agarwal, DCP of Ghaziabad. The accused had recently come to Goa and were working for a fertiliser manufacturing company.Murder accused jumps bail, held after eight years following clue from his relatives wedding inviteA murder accused who had been on the run for over eight years was arrested by the Cuddalore district police in Tamil Nadu, India. The police were able to track him down after receiving a clue from a wedding invitation that mentioned his name without the prefix late usually used for deceased family members. The accused had been hiding in Nagari, Andhra Pradesh, with his wife and children. He had jumped bail in 2015 after being charged with hacking a mess owner to death in 2014.
