NEW DELHI/GHAZIABAD (UP): A PhD scholar from AIIMS-New Delhi was apprehended on Wednesday in the Hauz Khas area of Delhi. The arrest was made in connection with allegations of sexually assaulting a woman by administering sedatives, resulting in her pregnancy. Subsequently, he is accused of terminating her pregnancy. Police in Ghaziabad (UP) provided this information.The complainant, in her filed report at the Kavi Nagar police station, asserted that she connected with the accused via a matrimonial website, and they had plans for marriage.Nevertheless, the accused and his family members allegedly began insisting on a payment of Rs 25 lakh in cash along with an SUV. Upon the complainants failure to meet these demands, the accused purportedly postponed the wedding date, citing the pretext of an upcoming examination, as conveyed to the police by the complainant.Subsequently, the accused and his brother-in-law reportedly visited the womans residence in Ghaziabad, where they allegedly sexually assaulted her. The assault occurred after the victim was served a cold drink containing sedatives. Additionally, the perpetrators purportedly recorded objectionable videos of the woman, as stated by assistant commissioner of police Abhishek Srivastav.The woman asserted that the accused had threatened to disseminate the incriminating video on social media and coerced her into engaging in physical relations. Upon discovering her pregnancy, he allegedly facilitated the termination and subsequently declined to fulfill his commitment to marry her, according to the police official.The assistant commissioner of police (ACP) mentioned that the accused was apprehended at his residence in Delhis Hauz Khas on Wednesday. An FIR has been registered against him and 11 other individuals at Kavinagar police station on November 2, the ACP stated.
