Man drags senior citizen by hair, kicks her in stomach; arrested

GHAZIABAD: A 24-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly dragging a 65-year-old woman by her hair and shoving her on the street in the Modinagar area. There has been some tussle going on between the two families.A 42-second video of the incident that was widely shared on social media shows the accused, Neeshu Kumar, a resident of Nandnagri in Modinagar, dragging a woman, Rajni, out of her house by the hair.He then pushes her on the road and kicks the woman several times in her stomach and back. The accused also picked a stone to attack her but was stopped by a man.The womans husband Suresh Chandra (70), a farmer, said he submitted a written complaint against the accused, who lives 50 metres from their house, but the police registered a non-cognizable case. An FIR was registered only after the video of the incident was shared on social media. On November 21, around 6 pm, my grandchildren were playing outside the house with other children, while my wife was chatting with a neighbour when the Neeshu suddenly came to our house and started abusing the children. When my wife objected, he started beating her, the complainant said. He claimed Rajni sustained injuries on her head and stomach, and had to be hospitalised.DCP (Rural) Vivek Yadav said, Initially, we registered an NCR case on the basis of complaint. During investigation, when we found the CCTV footage of the incident, we converted the complaint to an FIR. The accused was booked under the IPC Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 307 (attempt to murder). The accused, Srinivas, is a plumber and Lasya worked as a helper at a multi-speciality hospital. The incident occurred in front of their teenage daughter and was described as a premeditated act by the police.
