4 Noida cops thrashed in road rage in Gzb; 1 held

Ghaziabad: A group of locals allegedly beat up a Noida police team in Masuri village on Sunday in a road rage incident. The accused also snatched a government pistol from the head constable when he tried to drive away and vandalised his car, said Ghaziabad police. Four Noida copsinjured in the incident—sub-inspector Rahul Kumar, head constable Varun, and constables Varun and Kapil—are receiving treatment in a private hospital.One person has been detained in the case.Vivek Yadav, DCP of rural Ghaziabad, said the four cops in informal attire drove up to Masauta village under the jurisdiction of Masuri police station in a Creta car on Sunday to track down two stolen mobile phones. When the team reached a culvert near Masauta village, an Alto car with four people reached the culvert from the other side. Both groups asked for space, but no one moved. That started a row, which soon escalated into a fight, Yadav said. Some villagers arrived and allegedly started thrashing the cops. The head constable tried to escape in the car, but they stopped him and beat him up badly. They also snatched his gun when he took it out, Yadav said.The DCP said Ankit, the son of a former pradhan, Murli Chauhan, Vishal, and Rinku were in the Alto car. Police have detained Ankits elder brother Abhishek, who, along with other villagers, beat up the cops.Noida police said the team were searching for a gangster and tracing mobile phones stolen a few days ago.
