GHAZIABAD: Six persons were arrested for allegedly running sex rackets from spas at a mall amid a cluster of condominiums in Indirapuram. Officials said 17 others were picked up during raids, but were released after being handed warning notices.Police said they conducted raids at six spas at Aditya Mall after a tip-off that women trafficked from other states were being forced into prostitution there.During the searches, we found 44 women and 21 men in compromised positions or with some objectionable items. They were taken into custody. When we questioned them, we came to know that many of them were being blackmailed and had been forced into prostitution by the spa owners. So, we arrested the owners of the spa centres who allegedly forced women into this racket, said Swatantra Singh, ACP (Indirapuram). The six who were arrested were identified as Omprakash of Cocoon Spa, Jitendra Kumar of Renisha, Deepak Gaur of Satva, Nisha of Relief, and Lalit Kumar and Deepak Bhati of Pulse and Petals. They were booked under sections of the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, 1956.Initially, we took 23 people into custody. But 17 of them were customers. So, they were handed notices and released. The remaining six were sent to jail, Singh said. Our investigation will now focus on a larger prostitution racket. We will also probe if any of the women were trafficked.Police sources said the spa owners or managers would contact prospective clients on WhatsApp and send pictures. The rates and timings would be decided through chats, he added.Once a deal was struck, the clients would visit the spa and a room would be allotted to them. We are recording the statements of the women who were detained from the spas. We need to find out if other people were involved in this racket, an officer said.Repeated calls and messages did not elicit any response from the mall management.
