Intel to help state map poor roads to curb accident deaths

PANAJI: Intel India on Sunday announced its intention to partner with the Goa government to develop a GPS-based infrastructure map that could identify poor road infrastructure locations while also deploying a collision avoidance system (CAS) in Goa.Speaking at the Goa IT Day at ESG complex, the country head of Intel India and vice-president of Data Center Group Nivruti Rai said that Intel India was willing to work closely with the Goa government to introduce an automative safety innovation solution that will create a repository of road and traffic information.Rai pointed out that every year, the number of accident fatalities were increasing with "more than half of them due to poor road infrastructure and the remainder driver mistakes"."We at Intel have a solution that will enable avoidance of such accidents. "As a byproduct, we are generating a map of infrastructure that will tell where the infrastructure is poor that needs to be fixed otherwise an accident will happen."The CAS is provided by Mobileye, an Israeli startup company acquired by Intel in 2017 for $15 billion.Rai said Intel India was also keen to work with the state government to build a city data stack which will store data about basic amenities and government services on the cloud and which could then be monetized.Intel India is already working closely with state governments, particularly in Karnataka on similar interventions and is even collaborating with NITI Ayog on bringing in innovation and IT into governance.Rai also indicated that Intel India was willing to work with the Manohar Parrikar government to push internet penetration in the hinterland while also promoting women empowerment."I am trying to build rural connectivity.
