PANAJI: The government may consider retendering of supply of digital taxi meters as it is looking at adopting the Bureau of India Standards. The advocate general informed the high court of Bombay at Goa this week that a notification to this effect was issued on July 26 and stated that he would submit an affidavit of the director of transport on whether the standard is to be adopted and provide a revised timeline for tendering and implementing digital fare meters.In an affidavit submitted in July, the government had proposed a tentative timeline where the process of installing meters would be fitted in December 2018.The HC is monitoring the implementation of the government’s order to install taxi meters after a petition was filed by the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa. The court has passed a number of orders drawing the attention of the state to the long-pending issue and is urging it to take expeditious steps to fit meters. The meters were sent for testing at the international centre for automotive technology (ICAT) in Gurugram, Haryana, with the government stating that more time was required to complete the tests. The advocate general told the court that a meeting between ICAT and the government to expedite the matter has taken place.The high court in June requested the ICAT to personally look into the matter and extend all cooperation to furnish reports on the testing of the meters as early as possible.
