Ponda identifies 173 booths gets EVMs

Priol and Usgao-Ganjem, that come under Valpoi constituency, forms part of North Goa.Of the 128 booths, Ponda constituency has 43 booths, Shiroda has 45 and another 40 in Marcaim. Ponda: As Shiroda readies itself for the April 23 byelection and Ponda for the Lok Sabha polls, the election machinery is getting prepared with electronic voting machines ( EVMs ) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT).As the taluka has identified 128 booths for parliamentary election and 45 for the Shiroda bypolls, a total 205 electronic voting machines (EVMs) and 213 VVPAT machines were handed over to the Ponda returning office on Sunday.Of the four assembly constituencies in Ponda taluka, three —Ponda, Shiroda and Marcaim—fall under South Goa Parliamentary xonstituency. Shiroda also has an equal number of booths for the parliamentary election.Ponda deputy collector and returning officer for Shiroda bypolls Kedar Naik said they have already set up a strong room for the EVMs and VVPATs and all the machines received from the district returning officer have been sealed in the room.Naik said a close watch is being kept on the election process.
