OPDs at GMC to begin operations from 8am

Bambolim: The out patient departments (OPDs) at Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, Bambolim, will now begin operating from 8am onwards. "The plans have been drawn and Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) which is in charge of maintenance at GMC will have it in place shortly," he said..Health minister Vishwajit Rane had also announced a queue system for smooth functioning of GMC OPDs. "Nearly 2,000 patients visit the OPDs on a given day, the rest who crowd the corridors are relatives," he said. Earlier, the OPDs would begin operating from 9am, but with the new timing, the waiting period of patients will be reduced.Medical superintendent Dr S M Bandekar said the OPD timing has been altered so that patients don't have to wait long for consultation, while registration begins at 7am.Bandekar said the work of opening new registration counters at the hospitak has began. "It's was recently brought to my notice that some patients even stay overnight at GMC to be the first to register when the counter opens the next morning," Bandekar said, adding that he is currently focussing on smooth functioning of the hospital.He said he examined the functioning of five vital units of the hospital - hospital laundry, sewerage treatment plant (STP), water supply, sterile supply unit and bio-medical waste management.
