Goa govt to upgrade superspecialty facilities in the state

PANAJI: The government will focus on upgrading superspecialty facilities in the state along with providing them with adequate number of staffers, health minister Vishwajit Rane said on Tuesday.To reduce the load on consultants and ensure that cardiac facilities are provided 24x7 at the super specialty cardiac unit at the hospital, a senior and three junior consultants will be brought in, Rane said.Cardiac patients will also receive relief with six cardiac ambulances that will be stationed at different locations around Goa for which 24 MBBS doctors will be hired to work around-the-clock. The government is also giving priority to the setting up of the regional cancer centre. The next batch will come in by the end of July and the motorcycle ambulances will initially be introduced on the coastal belt and at accident spots. To put controversy on local purchases as well as in the pharmacy, to rest, Rane has moved a proposal for an external auditor to submit quarterly reports.The government has initiated the process to bring in 25 cochlear implants for children. Arrangements are being made for blood-testing facilities and machines are being brought in where a company has agreed to provide an application specialist and biomedical engineer at the lab around-the-clock.In South Goa , the collector has been issued a letter and will take steps to move the person running the dialysis unit at Hospicio, who has refused to vacate despite warnings. Sections of the hospital may be temporarily shifted to the old TB hospital.
