Indore celebrates century of tableaux tradition

Indore: The city of Indore witnessed a grand spectacle on Thursday evening as it marked the 100th year of the Tableaux Tradition on the auspicious occasion of Anant Chaturdashi. Thousands of residents and visitors gathered to witness a stunning display of tableaux, each one more captivating than the last, celebrating the citys cherished heritage.The centenary tradition of tableaux began its journey at around 6 pm, featuring a total of 23 beautifully crafted floats. The procession commenced with aarti of Lord Ganesha, performed by Indore district collector, Ilaiyaraaja T. along with Indore police commissioner, Makrand Deoskar and IMC commissioner, Harshika Singh. These mesmerizing tableaux included depictions of Ram Darbar, Sita Haran, a Shiva procession, and the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji. The tradition was upheld by the dedicated textile mill workers of the city who poured their heart and soul into these artistic creations.The Tableaux Tradition is more than just a procession; its a living legacy that ties us to our roots, serving as a reminder of our rich culture and history our city proudly embraces. My parents made it a yearly tradition to bring my siblings and me to witness the Jhanki. It was a flood of cherished childhood memories for me today, said Ramesh Sharma, a resident who witnessed the procession.Additionally, the melodious tunes of bands resonated through the streets, elevating the festive atmosphere. Apart from the mythological tableaux, there were tableaux with social messages, emphasizing the importance of saving water, protecting the environment, and reducing single-use plastic.The Tableaux tradition, which began a century ago, has evolved over time, with this years procession featuring the latest addition, the success of Chandrayaan-3. The tradition has come a long way from its humble beginnings when the first tableau was pulled on a bullock cart.To be a part of the centenary celebration is a privilege. Its a testament to the citys resilience and its commitment to preserving its heritage, said Ajay Malamkar, an artist who contributed to the Chandrayaan-3 tableau.To ensure the smooth flow of the procession, a force of around 2000 policemen was deployed along the Jhanki route to manage traffic. The Cauvery River basin currently has only 49 tmc feet of water, far below the required amount.Power supply to be off on procession routeLucknow Electricity Supply Administration (Lesa) has announced that power supply to certain areas in Lucknow will be disrupted for five hours during the Barawafat processions to prevent accidents. This precautionary measure comes after a previous incident where a tazia caught fire after touching a high-tension wire. Lesa officials have identified the affected areas, including Old Haiderganj and Aishbagh Road. In other news, Wockhardt Hospital in Nagpur had to evacuate patients due to flooding, and the Sensex dropped by 571 points due to various factors including the US Federal Reserves stance on rates.Eid procession will revert to old route after four yearsAfter four years, the route for the julus procession on Eid-e-Milad in South Goa will return to its traditional path. The decision was made at a meeting between the district collector, Muslim community representatives, and senior police officials. The change in route without consulting the community had previously caused hurt sentiments. The procession will start from Jama Masjid and pass through the town before culminating near Ravindra Bhavan. Guidelines have been issued, including a prohibition on vehicles joining the procession. The chief minister has extended his greetings to the Muslim community for Eid-e-Milad.
