Indore: The state goods and services tax department has seized suspected election freebies worth Rs 45 crore likely to be distributed by political parties to lure voters in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh since the enforcement of model code of conduct, a top official said on Friday. The department has also caught and cancelled registrations of hundreds of firms involved in dealing and ferrying large volumes of such items without proper invoices and e-way bills. Through raids and vehicle interceptions across different junctions in the state , we have seized goods including sarees, utensils, silver jewellery, mobile phones and liquor that were probably used as freebies in the poll-bound state. These items were transported with fake names and invoices. So far we have made seizures worth Rs 45 crore in the state, said Rajini Singh, additional commissioner, SGST. The SGST department has carried 140 raids after model code of conduct came into force in the state. BJP president JP Nadda has released the partys manifesto, promising various initiatives if elected. The elections will be held on November 7.
