Amnesty scheme to benefit over 2k GST payers in MP

Indore: The amnesty scheme launched by the Centre is likely to benefit more than 2000 GST payers of Madhya Pradesh by offering an additional window for filing appeals. The scheme gives GST payers additional time until January 31, 2024 to file appeals against demand orders. The scheme applies to appeals against demand orders issued on or before March 31, 2023, with a filing deadline of January 31, 2024. Taxpayers must make a pre-deposit of 12.5% of the disputed tax amount, with at least 20% debited from the Electronic Cash Ledger. The scheme does not apply to appeals related to non-tax demands.GST: Finance ministry launches amnesty scheme for filing appeals against demand ordersThe finance ministry has introduced an amnesty scheme for filing appeals against GST demand orders, which will be open until January 31, 2024. The scheme is available for entities that were unable to submit appeals against orders issued by the tax officer on or before March 31, 2023. The entities must pre-deposit 12.5% of the tax demand, compared to the current 10%. The scheme aims to help taxpayers who missed the appeal deadline due to administrative errors or unforeseen circumstances and promote better cooperation with tax authorities.1984 riots case: LGs nod for appeal in SCLG VK Saxena has approved the Delhi governments proposal to move the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Courts judgment that acquitted 12 murder accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. The high court had dismissed the appeal against the trial courts verdict due to the delay in filing the appeal. The Supreme Court had previously directed the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe cases related to the 1984 riots, and the instant case was one of them. The SIT had recommended filing an appeal immediately after the judgment.
