UTD sem exams likely to face delay

Indore: Following a significant three-month delay in commencing the academic session at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) due to the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), the university is now bracing for further challenges as the scheduled semester exams at its University Teaching Departments (UTDs) are also expected to be delayed. The delay is attributed to the forthcoming assembly elections, which require the deployment of professors and technical staff for electoral duties. As per the academic calendar, the UTDs were expected to conduct first semester examination for the newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students in December. However with most of the UTDs at DAVV grappling with the professors, HODs and technical staff being assigned election duty poses a fresh challenge, resulting in potential disruptions to the timely execution of the semester examinations. The combined impact of the CUET-related delay and the anticipated deployment of key academic personnel for election duties has sparked concerns among students and faculty members alike. The university administration is now tasked with managing these dual challenges and ensuring the smooth progression of the academic calendar while addressing the demands of both the electoral responsibilities and the educational requirements of the students. The semester exams are unlikely to be conducted as per the schedule now with upcoming assembly elections and long holidays for festivals. Most of the teachers are busy with the election duties thus course completion is also pending, thus the exams are will probably be conducted in January or February, said Dr. Chandan Gupta, media spokesperson of DAVV.Typically, the academic session at DAVV should commence in July-August while first semester exams are conducted in December. However, the academic calendar has been facing disruptions post Covid19 .
