1353 cast vote from home in Shajapur & Agar-Malwa districts in two days

Indore: As many as 1353 persons above age of 80 and persons with disabilities (PWD) cast their votes through postal ballots from their homes in Shajapur and Agar-Malwa districts in the last two days.Of them, 753 exercised their franchise on November 6 in three assembly constituencies — Shajapur, Shujalpur and Kalapipal — of Shajapur district.Shajapur district election officer Kishor Kanyal told TOI, We have formed 45 teams for three constituencies in Shajapur for polling through postal ballots from homes for elderly votersand PWD.The teams completed voting for 96% of those who opted for vote from home facility on November 6.The remaining would have a chance to vote on November 10 in the district, said Kanyal. In the district, out of 20,000 persons above age of 80 and persons with disabilities, 784 people opted for vote from home through postal ballots.In Agar-Malwa district, 28 teams went door-to-door to facilitate vote from home on Tuesday. Around 600 voters, out of 960, who had opted for this facility in the district exercised their franchise in a day District election officer Raghuvendra Singh told TOI, Around 600 people voted from their houses through postal ballots on Monday. The teams would visit others on Wednesday in the district. The ECI recently launched a facility to allow voting through postal ballots to people aged above 80 years, persons with disabilities from their homes. The team members are trained to communicate effectively with the migrants, using Hindi and the local language, Bhili.Over 71% voter turnout recorded amid mostly peaceful balloting in first phase of Chhattisgarh electionsThe first phase of elections in Chhattisgarh saw a voter turnout of over 71 percent, with balloting being mostly peaceful. However, there were incidents of IED blasts and an exchange of fire in Maoist insurgency affected areas. The constituencies most affected by Maoist insurgency reported the highest voter turnout, while the lowest turnout was recorded in a Maoist-affected area. The remaining 70 constituencies will go to polls on November 17. Overall, women voters outnumbered men in the first phase.
