Central library sees rise in membership

Indore: The central library of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) has experienced a rise in its membership, with around 800 students enrolling in the new academic session 2023-24 till date. In the last academic session, around 730 students were enrolled, till November.The decision to extend library hours, from 10am to 7pm, to include Sundays has played a crucial role in this surge.Approximately 150 students from theuniversity teaching departments (UTDs) have obtained memberships for the central library, while 600 special membership cards have been issued to students preparing for competitive exams from outside the university. Around 30 PhD scholars have also utilized the librarys resources.The central library spanning 30,000 square feet, located at the universitys Khandwa Road campus, caters to a daily footfall of over 800 students.Librarys membership base includes UTD students, faculty, college students, teachers from other colleges, PhD scholars and individuals preparing for competitive exams. UTD students also have access to departmental libraries, resulting in a comparatively modest membership rate among them in contrast to the students from outside.We are working on enhancing the facilities at the library. Our aim is to provide an enriching academic environment for all our members, and we encourage students and researchers to make the most of our resources and facilities, DAVV in-charge librarian Dr Rajiv Gupta said. The membership is still open for students and interested individuals. The varsity has also collaborated with an IT firm for digital library and other national agencies to enhance its resources. Members can access the Central Librarys catalogue through the campus intranet. His leadership is expected to have a lasting impact on the nationwide public library movement, promoting literacy and access to information.Blinken says convinced of Swedens NATO membership progress after Ankara visitUS Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed confidence in progress being made on Swedens NATO membership bid after talks with his Turkish counterpart. Turkeys President Erdogan finally submitted the bill for ratifying Swedens membership to parliament, which must be approved by the foreign affairs committee before a general assembly vote and Erdogans signature. Blinken stated that he expects forward movement on this issue and highlighted the shared commitment between Ankara and Washington to ensure Swedens inclusion in the alliance. Sweden and Finland sought NATO membership to enhance their security following Russias invasion of Ukraine.
