Gold paste worth ₹6L seized at airport

Indore: The Customs officials seized 111.5gm of foreign origin gold paste and 3,840 cigarette sticks of foreign origin from a passenger arriving from Dubai to Indore at the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport. The passenger had concealed the foreign origin gold paste inside the zip of jeans pants. The value of the seized gold paste is Rs 6 lakh. The same passenger from Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh was carrying 3,840 sticks of Indonesia origin (Gudang Garam) cigarettes in 16 packets in his baggage. On basis of specific Intelligence developed by Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) Customs, Indore a male passenger from Rampur district of UP was intercepted who was arriving from Dubai to Indore by Air India Express IX 258 dated Nov 9. The passenger concealed foreign origin gold paste inside the zip of jeans pants, Customs commissionerate, Indore (MP & CG) said in a statement issued on Friday. Foreign origin gold paste of 111.50 gm along with foreign origin 3,840 cigarette sticks were seized by Customs AIU, Indore under the Customs Act, 1962, the statement read. Sameer Chitkara, commissioner Customs, Indore said, We are keeping a strict vigil on suspected movement and closely tracking the passengers profile. Such incidences increase during Diwali due to a surge in the domestic market. We intercepted this passenger based on suspicion about his profile and found Rs 6 lakh foreign origin gold paste and cigarettes. The smuggling operation began early on Wednesday morning after flights from Kuwait City, Dubai, and Bangkok landed. The smugglers, hailing from Kerala, had hidden gold in their rectums and undergarments. A total of 5kg of gold was confiscated, and investigations are ongoing to determine if the smugglers are connected to a larger international racket.
