Indore: The festive spirit on Dhanteras, a day considered auspicious to purchase gold, vehicles, and household items, led to heavy rush in markets on Friday.Shops, decorated with beautiful lights and lamps, witnessed high footfall of shoppers since late afternoon with many areas in the city facing heavy traffic jams and commotion.Gold and silver coins, and idols saw a good demand from customers, retailers said, while demand for light weight jewellery also picked up on the occasion.Indore Sarafa Association president Anil Raka said, There is a high footfall of customers in the Sarafa market since evening and sales are expected to be at par with the last years level. Though we were expecting much higher growth, elections have kept people busy, and funds restricted.There were also big offers on electronics and most household items. Electronics shops claimed a jump of over 15 per cent sales in home appliances. An owner of an electronic shop wishing anonymity said, We are expecting a great season. Refrigerators, washing machines, laptops among other household items were in high demand from customers.Automobile showrooms were busy clearing deliveries of pre-booked vehicles and deliveries were expected to take place until late in the night on Dhanteras, said sales executives at automobile showrooms.Automobile dealer from Indore Aditya Kasliwal said, After a long time, sales of two wheelers have picked up. Around 3,000 units of two wheelers are likely to be sold in the city on the day of Dhanteras. Four-wheeler sales also edged up on demand for medium range vehicles.The traditional Bartan bazaar of Indore also saw brisk sales on the occasion with heavy demand for glasses, bowls, utensil sets and kalash.Indore Bartan Nirmata Vikreta Sangh president Surendra Mehta said, We were expecting at least 30 per cent upside but elections have kept a lid on sales.
