Cong keen to wrest Shujalpur from BJP

Indore: With six days left for polling, both BJP and Congress have upped the ante in canvassing for attracting viotes in Shujalpur constituency.The Congress is attempting to wrest Shujalpur constituency from BJP, which had remained undefeated for the last 20 years. BJP on the other hand is confident of retaining the seat. The Congress party gave ticket to Ramveer Singh Sikarwar for the second time against BJP candidate and school education minister Inder Singh Parmar to turn tides in its favor.Sikarwar is aggressively campaigning in the area and raising issues residents face.He is targetting young voters through dedicated teams handling messages, appeals on social media and making calls to the voters seeking their votes.Parmar on other hand covered the nook and corner of the constituency giving details of developmental works like CM rise schools, water pipeline and other done in area. President, DCC, Shajapur Yogendra Singh Bunty told TOI, Sikarwar lost the election with a small margin of 5700 votes in 2018. Even after losing the election, he along with his family remained active in the area for the last five years.At organizational level, a team of 25 members has ben formed at every booth for door-to-door campaigning for the Congress party, said Bunty adding, "The candidates are given free-hand to run their campaign."Sikarwar was not alone in this campaign. His son, who is district president of youth Congress is also campaigning for the party with his team. The BJP leaders however are confident of continuing their winning streak.Shajapur BJP media cell in-charge Vijay Joshi told TOI, The people in Shujalpur area traditionally voted for the party from the time of Jan Sangh. In the last 20 years, whosoever is the candidate, the BJP won election based on developmental works carried out in the area.We are sure to win the election this time also, said Joshi. The constituency is predominantly rural area suffering from lack of health facility, unavailability of doctors in district hospital that is acting as referral centre.The residents face issues of electricity timings, Narmada water supply pipeline and lack of employment opportunities in the area.The mode of survival is farming, and farmers are demanding an increase in Minimum Support Price (MSP) of crops. Agrawal alleged that a group of 20-25 youths assaulted him in a Muslim-dominated locality. The Congress called it a "gimmick" and accused Agrawal of resorting to drama due to fear of defeat. Agrawal blamed the attack on aides of Congress leader Aijaz Dhebar and accused the government of inaction. The police are investigating the matter.
