Home-made sutli bomb launcher explodes, kills Indore boy

Indore: A 15-year-old Indore boy died on Diwali when a homemade fireworks launcher exploded in his hands, shooting shrapnel into his body when he was trying to play-act a rocket launcher.The victim, a student of class 9, stuffed sutli bomb into a canister and set fire to it around 2.30am, say police. Instead of the flames shooting outwards, however, the fireworks blasted through the rear end of the pipe, police said.The impact was so powerful that the boy was hurled several fell backwards and flung on the ground, witnesses have told police. He never regained consciousness.Family members took him to MY Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Splinters and flames had penetrated his body.Initially, the family was reluctant to go for a post-mortem examination but after doctors counselled them, they agreed to it. The autopsy was done and the body was handed over to family for last rites, Aerodrome police station in charge Rajesh Sahu said, adding that they are investigating the death.
