Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) plans to restructure seat allocations for the upcoming 2024 admissions, aiming to accommodate a wider array of courses. The university is set to reduce seats in underperforming courses while bolstering capacities in highly sought-after programs across its university teaching departments (UTDs).Departments like IIPS, IMS, MRC, School of Economics, and School of Law, along with IET, have reported a manifold surge in demand across various sought-after programs like MBA, BCom Hons, MTech and others. But around 40% of seats in 15 departments remain unoccupied annually. Nearly 65% courses, such as BA in Yoga, BPharm, BSc in Physics among others, offered by non-CUET departments have vacant seats up to 20%, prompting contemplation on reducing seat quotas for programs.A meeting of department heads, directors, the vice-chancellor, and the registrar, is slated to evaluate the 120 courses offered by DAVV for potential seat adjustments. The proposed changes are expected to kickstart from the upcoming academic session.Courses with persistent vacancies over the past five years are earmarked for reduced seat quotas, while those experiencing escalating demand will witness an augmentation in their seat allotments. Logistical considerations such as classroom availability will also play a key role in these decisions.DAVV registrar Dr Ajay Verma emphasized the need for this restructuring, citing the imbalance between course demand and seat availability across departments. The primary objective is to ensure optimal occupancy post-admissions, whether through CUET or non-CUET courses. Discussions are underway to potentially integrate almost all non-CUET courses into the CUET system, showcasing the universitys commitment to aligning its offerings with student preferences. We also published the following articles recentlySushasana initiative takes back seatAn initiative to promote transparency in higher education institutes and universities in Mysuru, India has been put on hold after a change in government.
