Indore: The street of Chappan Dukan witnessed an influx of over 3000 locals, transforming the usual morning bustle into a jubilant celebration of civic duty on Friday after casting their vote. From early morning, the aroma of freshly prepared delicacies like poha, jalebi, samosas, and patties wafted through the air. As voters displayed their inked fingers, local food vendors and cafes opened their doors, offering complimentary mealsand discounts as a gesture of appreciation for their active participation in the democratic process.There were more than 3000 people who came to our shops after casting their votes. It was astonishing to see so many people who had voted before coming to Chappan pointing towards a good voter turnout this time. We wanted to serve the people who came forward to cast their vote, so we had pitched this scheme of offering discounts, Chappan Dukan Association former president Gopal Sharma said.Many other cafes and eateries in the city also offered discounts to the customers showing their inked fingers. Many youngsters thronged these places to get their discounts and discuss elections with friends. I could see most people in the cafe discussing the voting and the elections. Our group of five proudly flaunted our inked fingers and got heavy discounts, said Anamika Singh, a youngster from the city. Voters aged 80 and above, as well as those with disabilities, are eligible to vote from their homes. The Election Commission sends special polling teams to record their votes in postal ballots. A total of 62,927 voters have applied for home voting in the state. Voting will continue until November 19, with special teams visiting voters who were not home during the first phase. The main voting day is set for November 25, with counting on December 3.74% voters get inked in IndoreIndore district in India recorded a voter turnout of 73.75% in the assembly elections, surpassing the turnout of 71.45% in the 2018 polls. The turnout started slowly but gradually increased throughout the day. The district reported peaceful elections, with only a few incidents and the replacement of some voting equipment. Other districts, including Dewas, Shajapur, Agar-Malwa, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ratlam, Ujjain, Barwani, and Khargone, also reported high voter turnout. However, some seats in Jobat and Jhabua had low turnout due to migration.
