11% Tele MANAS callers referred to hosps for treatment

Indore: Around 11.60% of persons calling to Tele MANAS, Madhya Pradesh were referred to a facility preferably to nearest district hospital in the last one year of inception of the helpline for treatment.The helpline launched last year in October first week completed one year. The helpline received inbound calls from 16,661 persons in a year. Of those, 1930 were referred to Tier 2 (district hospital) facilities for treatment, Tele MANAS records showed.The helpline further recorded 12853 outbound calls in a year taking the overall calls number to 29,514 in Madhya Pradesh, showed records. Psychiatrist, Dr. Krishna Mishra, who is overseeing work of Indore cell, Tele MANAS said, The inbound calls are those received by the helpline and outbound calls are those follow up calls made by counsellors/psychiatrist to the callers. Thereferral to tier 2 means referring to a hospital for treatment Dr Mishra said. Further, there are 2859 calls referred to Tier 1 (consultant), who is a psychiatrist in the last one year. Tele MANAS is a toll-free helpline number 14416/18008914416 launched across the country for tele consultation and counselling of patients. Tele-MANAS is an accessible, affordable, and equitable platform to handle all types of emotional, psychological, sexual and addiction problems. Consultant Psychiatrist, Tele MANAS cell, Indore Dr Anubhuti Upadhyay said, The people are calling from across state with multiple issues like Sleep Disturbances, Stress-related, Sadness of mood, anxiety, aggression, substance abuse, drug side effects, suicide ideation/attempt, fatigue, body aches and others.The gender-wise bifurcation of call records showed that two-third or 65% of the callers to the helpline were male, who used this facility.
