Indore: A team of ten students from the Shri GS Institute of Science and Technology (SGSITS) are developing two cutting-edge drones for the Mumbai division of western railway. These innovative drones are aimed to enhance safety and efficiency within the railway network by monitoring tracks, tunnels, crowd density, and potential obstructions to prevent untoward incidents. One of our alumni from the 1990s batch, working with the Mumbai division of western railways, had approached us to develop drones for them for monitoring purposes, SGSITS incubation forum CEO Apurva Gayawak said. The collaborative project between SGSITS and Western Railways is a step towards leveraging modern technology to ensure a safer and more reliable railway system. The two drone prototypes, designed to meet the specific needs of the Mumbai division, are set to undergo a trial period before full-scale implementation."Our team is thrilled to contribute to the enhancement of railway safety in the Mumbai division. We believe these drones will prove to be invaluable assets for Western Railways. Our goal is to revolutionise railway monitoring and prevent accidents by providing real-time data to the authorities," Nikhar Gupta, a member of the team working on the project said.Equipped with high-resolution cameras and sensors, the drones will monitor the condition of railway tracks, detecting anomalies, damage, or obstructions promptly. The drones will be equipped to access tunnels, which are often challenging for human inspection, ensuring their structural integrity and the safety of train operations.Using AI algorithms, drones will estimate crowd density at railway stations, aiding authorities in crowd management and social distancing during peak hours. Advanced obstacle detection technology will enable the drones to identify potential hindrances on the tracks, such as debris or unauthorized crossings.Students are also working on developing a sustainable prototype using biodegradable material. We also published the following articles recently100 personnel, drones in hunt for maneaterA massive force including the Special Tiger Protection Force, Leopard Task Force, and trained elephants has been deployed to track and capture a tiger that mauled a woman in Bandipur Tiger Reserve. The attack occurred when three women entered the forested area of the reserve to graze their cattle. The force consists of 100 trained personnel, drones, cameras, forest watchers, and three elephants with vets. Additional cameras are being installed for monitoring, and three cages, including a specialized Tumakuru cage, will be used to trap the tiger.Newborn found abandoned in wooden box near railway tracks in MumbaiA newborn male child was found abandoned in a wooden box near the railway tracks between Andheri and Vile Parle stations in Mumbai. Government Railway Police (GRP) took him to a hospital for treatment. Andheri GRP have registered an FIR against the unknown parents of the baby. The GRP will make inquiries in the slum colony located alongside the tracks. They will also check hospitals and nursing homes for any recently born but untraceable babies.Rush Of Blood Saving Lives Via DronesPreliminary findings of a study conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) suggest that using drones to deliver blood supplies in remote areas could be a gamechanger. The study involved flying blood samples and components to difficult geographical areas using battery-operated drones. The results showed that drones were safer and less time-consuming compared to conventional transportation methods. The study aims to establish a delivery method for life-saving blood during emergencies and develop standard operating procedures for using drones.
