Indore drenched in highest Nov rainfall in a decade

Indore: Indore marked its highest November rainfall in a decade, registering 24.8mm on Sunday (till 11.30pm). The citys rainfall history shows a pattern, from no rain in 2013, 0.4mm in 2014, and no rainfall from 2015 to 2018, 2020, and 2022. In 2019, there was a recorded 2.5mm, highlighting this years exceptional rainfall.The city witnessed a notable downpour on Sunday evening, accumulating 12 mm of rainfall by 8:30 pm.The intense spell of rainfall continued in till the night hours also.With persistent cloud cover and brisk north-easterly winds, Sunday saw a significant drop in the maximum temperature to 25.0 degrees Celsius, a deviation of four degrees below the usual. Conversely, the minimum temperature remained notably higher at 18.6 degrees Celsius, marking a six-degree departure from the typical low.The precipitation marked a significant shift in the citys weather dynamics, commencing with a cloak of fog that prompted drivers to their vehicles headlights for safe navigation in the morning hours.As the day progressed, drizzles coupled with thunder and lightning cascaded across various parts of the city. The atmospheric transition began subtly on Saturday evening, marked by a noticeable surge in moisture, leading to a subsequent drop in temperatures by Sunday morning. The skyline veiled itself with dense clouds accompanied by fog, culminating in a perceptible chill intensified by the absence of sunlight throughout the day.The repercussions of the rainfall displayed in waterlogged roads across several parts of the city. The prevailing coolness of the weather transitioned into a tangible chill by late evening, prompting residents to seek warmth in layered clothing. Gusty winds swept through the city, accompanying the wet spell, intensifying the weathers impact.Orange alert beyond Indore: Expanding beyond Indore, the Meteorological Department issued a orange alert neighboring districts like Dhar, Khargone, Ratlam, Barwani, Jhabua, Alirajpur and Ujjain. These regions were cautioned about an impending deluge accompanied by thunderstorms, potent winds, and potential hailstorms. Notably, Khargone recorded 24mm of rainfall, followed by 18mm in Ratlam, 7mm each in Indore and Dhar, and 3mm in Ujjain.A western disturbance, positioned between 4.5 km and 12.0 km above sea level, stretches from Longitude 64°E to north of Latitude 15°N. Simultaneously, cyclonic circulations are evident over central Pakistan, West Rajasthan, northeast Arabian Sea, Saurashtra, Kutch coasts, north Madhya Pradesh, and the northwest Bay of Bengal. After 24 hours, on Monday, Indore and other parts of Indore division are expected to witness light rainfall at isolated places. The isolated spells of light rainfall are likely to continue till 28-29 November, said Dr. Ved Prakash Singh, a senior scientist at IMD Bhopal. The meteorologist forecasts a noticeable decline in daytime temperatures by 4-5 degrees over the next three days as clouds continue to move in, settling around 24-25 degrees Celsius. Conversely, elevated humidity stemming from the clouds and increased moisture may cause a slight uptick of 1-2 degrees in nighttime temperatures.Additionally, the meteorological department anticipates a lingering mild cold spell even after the rainfall subsides, extending possibly into the first week of December.Power outage: Prolonged power outages hit Bhanwarkuan, Saket, Tilak Nagar LIG, and Palasia areas in the city, affecting residents for over an hour after the initial spell of moderate rainfall. Many low lying colonies and slums had been without electricity for three hours. The Sangam Nagar electricity zone was enveloped in darkness, with officials unable to provide a timeline for the restoration of power, leaving residents in anticipation and discomfort.Lightning strike kills one in Barwani: A tribal woman on Sunday died due to lightning strike in Silavad police station area of Barwani district.According to police, 48-year-old Chayni Bai died in village Juna Jhira. Sudden heavy rain prompted her to rush out of the hut when she was hit by lightning.Her mother and son standing at some distance remained safe.On Sunday the weather became cool due to heavy rain in Barwani and Khargone districts
