Civic body: Burn trash in open, pay ₹10K fine

Indore: Taking cognizance of the deteriorating air quality, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Tuesday issued instructions to cover under-construction buildings with green net, and ensure dumping of construction and demolition (C&D) waste only at designated places.IMC commissioner Harshika Singh, who on Tuesday held a meeting with senior civic body, pollution control board, traffic and Clean Air Catalyst officials, reviewed reasons behind increasing air pollution. All building officers and inspectors have been instructed to ensure that under-construction buildings are covered with green net. They were also asked to slap a penalty of at least Rs 10,000 on burning garbage. Also, efforts will be made to encourage use of public transport. Singh said. She emphasized on round-the-clock cleaning of roads using mechanized sweeping methods to help stop particulate matters from spreading in the atmosphere. The commissioner also stressed on taking help of pollution monitoring systems and forming a committee to help speed up conversion of industrial boilers from coal and woods to CNG along with ensuring that the industrial waste is disposed of properly.Singh directed the officials concerned for plantations near left turns, dividers and squares to help check air pollution. Also, a campaign will be launched to generate public awareness to help improve air quality.
