BJP seats rise to 47 from 32 in Malwa-Nimar

Indore: BJP sprung a surprise and regained its bastion in Malwa Nimar region as assembly polls results announced in 66 constituencies on Sunday showed the saffron party decimating Congress in key seats.The ruling party raised its tally from 32 to 47, made a clean sweep of all nine seats in Indore and humbled Congress bigwigs with winning margins that outnumber the votes received by the competition.Congress was left with 18 seats; one went to newly-formed Bhartiya Aadivasi Party (BAP).BJP also swept all the seats in Dewas (5), Shajapur (3), Neemuch (3), Burhanpur (2) and Khandwa (4).The poll battle saw Congress MLAs Jitu Patwari (Rau), Sajjan Singh Verma (Sonkatch), Vijaylaxmi Sadho (Maheshwar) and Hukum Singh Karada (Shajapur) losing on the turf held by them several times. They were pitted to win but lost to new faces.In 2018, BJP, which held 56 of the 66 seats in Malwa-Nimar, was reduced to 27. After the upheaval by Jyiotiraditya Scindia camp and subsequent bypolls, BJP raised the tally to 32 in subsequent bypolls.In 2023, the region saw electrifying poll campaigning by both the BJP and Congress – each throwing their star campaigners in the fray. As per the ECI data, Congress candidates Phoolsingh Rathiya, Umesh Patel, Janak Dhruw, Ashish Chhabra, and Aditya Raj are leading in early trends. BJPs Kedar Kashyap is also leading from Narayanpur assembly constituency. The four main contenders in the Chhattisgarh Elections 2023 are the BJP, Congress, Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC), and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).Chhattisgarh: BJP leading in 23 seats, Congress ahead in 18 seatsThe Election Commission announced that the BJP was leading in 23 seats and the ruling Congress was ahead in 18 seats in the Chhattisgarh assembly elections. The counting of votes in the 90-member assembly started at 8 am on Sunday. The elections were held in two phases on November 7 and 17, with a voter turnout of 76.31 percent. Postal ballots were counted first, followed by the counting of votes through EVMs in the presence of officials and political parties agents.
