NEP: Colleges gear up to extend their DAVV affiliation

Indore: As the first batch of National Education Policy (NEP) students enters their fourth year, colleges affiliated to Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) will have to extend their affiliation with the university to align with the programmes four-year duration.NEPs directive enables UG students to hold an honours degree upon completing a four-year programme, allowing an exit option after three years.Colleges, which are offering the fourth year, must meet stringent criteria in the heads including infrastructure, faculty, and facilities to secure affiliation under NEP guidelines.To facilitate teaching UG courses in the fourth year, colleges will have to apply for affiliation, marking the first instance where institutions must seek formal accreditation for the fourth year of UG programmes. The deadline for applications looms on January 15, prompting colleges to submit their requests. DAVV is also forming an inspection team to assess colleges resources before granting affiliation.Team from the university will inspect the colleges that have applied for extension of affiliation for the fourth year under NEP guidelines. Colleges have been given two months time till January as the fourth year NEP classes are scheduled in the next session in 2024-25, DAVV registrar Dr Ajay Verma said.Colleges have been advised to adapt, expand, and enhance resources, including additional classes, faculty appointments, and the expansion of computer labs and libraries to meet the affiliation criteria.The higher education department has laid down regulations dictating the requisites for colleges and universities under NEP. NEP, introduced by the central government in 2020, mandated the extension of BA, BCom, BSc, BBA, and BCA courses to a four-year tenure.The four-year degrees can be offered with or without a research component by the institutions.
