Weddings & winter send sales of Indori namkeens soaring

Indore: Wedding season has spiked demand for Indore namkeens and savouries in the winter season by more than 30 per cent amid increased consumption.High overseas enquiries for locally manufactured namkeens have also supported the upside in demand, said traders.Per day demand for namkeens in the city is seen jumping to 200-250 tonnes a day as against 150 tonnes on normal days, said the association of namkeen manufacturers in Indore.Namkeen Misthan Nirmata Evam Vikreta Kalyan Sangh Madhya Pradesh secretary Anurag Bothra said, Demand for namkeen saw a rise during the festival season and again enquiries have jumped due to weddings. Per day demand for namkeen in Indore is expected to jump by more than 30 per cent. Namkeen manufacturers said, enquiries for Indore made namkeens and savouries have increased from North America, United Kingdom followed by Asian countries. Major enquiries from long distance customers come for long shelf-life namkeens and sweets.Indore is famous for its wide varieties of namkeens and sweets. The spike in demand has prompted many manufacturers to hire contractual workers to meet the increased demand. Mukesh Jain, a namkeen manufacturer in Industry House area said, Winter is the main demand season for namkeens as their shelf-life increases and consumption remains high. In summers, people avoid eating spicy namkeens.
