IMC eyes ₹45cr revenue in Nat’l Lok Adalat

Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), which is facing fund crunch, is eying to generate around Rs 45 crore of revenue through National Lok Adalat on Saturday by offering up to 100% rebate on surcharge on clearing pending property and water tax. Under Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act of 1956, up to 100% rebate has been offered on surcharge on clearing pendency of up to Rs 50,000 of property tax, followed by 50% rebate on clearing pendency between Rs 50,000 and up to Rs 1 lakh, and 25% rebate on clearing pendency of property tax and surcharge totalling above Rs 1 lakh.Similarly, IMC has offered 100% rebate on surcharge on clearing pendency of up to Rs 10,000 of water tax, followed by 75% rebate on the amount up to Rs 50,000 and 50% rebate on surcharge on clearing water tax and surcharge totalling above Rs 50,000, IMC officials said.National Lok Adalat will be organized at IMC headquarter and all the zone offices, IMC additional commissioner Abhilash Mishra said, adding that IMC has also offered to clear the dues in two instalments of 50% each.So far in this financial year, we have generated around Rs 350 crore of revenue through property tax, water tax, rent of properties including shops in IMC-owned markets and other fees. Efforts are on to cross the mark of Rs 750 crore by March 31 Mishra said.Auto-generated SMSs have been sent to all the property and water tax account holders with the information of the dues at their end and with an appeal to clear the same on Saturday to avail the benefit of up to 100% rebate, Mishra said. The revenue generated through taxes, rent and fees of different services by IMC is spent on different works of development and for continuity of the same, people are requested to clear their dues on time he said. The numbering of properties has started in Bhosari, Wakad, and Pimpri Waghere, with plans to cover all other areas. The municipal corporation will serve notices to these property owners, urging them to register. The survey is expected to uncover around two to three lakh unregistered properties, potentially doubling the annual tax amount. Additionally, officials have discovered that several properties registered for residential purposes are being used for commercial purposes, resulting in discrepancies between the registered and actual property areas. The internal measurements conducted so far have revealed around 45,000 properties with such issues.
