Civic body tells govt depts, agencies to pay up dues

Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has approached railways, Indore Development Authority (IDA) and other government agencies to clear property and other taxes due to help it achieve this financial years target of Rs 750 crore.IMC has so far managed to reach the mark of Rs 400 crore with the help of national lok adalat held on Saturday. With just around three months left, the civic body needs to collect around Rs 350 crore through property tax, water tax, rent of its property, including market and fees of door-to-door garbage collection among others. We have identified some big establishments, including government agencies and departments. We will approach them and ask them to clear their dues, IMC additional commissioner Abhilash Mishra said.Except the exempted taxes that are not levied on government agencies and departments, there are still dues, including advertisement tax to be recovered from the railways. IMC also has around Rs 100 crore of taxes to be settled with IDA, he added.There are some government departments and establishments that are using IMC services and are also liable for property and other taxes. But their accounts are either yet not opened or they have to clear dues pending from last few years, he said. IMC has also launched a drive against private establishments that have more than Rs 50,000 due as property and water tax. The establishments will be sealed if they fail to clear the dues in days to come, Mishra said. PCMC is conducting a survey to assign a Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC) to all properties. The survey has revealed that many properties in the Wakad area are unregistered. So far, numbering for 3,05,573 properties has been completed. At the end of the survey, it is expected that around two to three lakh unregistered properties will be unearthed. The municipal corporation will start serving notices to these property owners to register with the civic body.Family unleashes dogs on power department collecting dues in UPA routine visit by power department officials to collect overdue electricity bills in Bulandshahr turned chaotic when a family beat them up and unleashed their pet dogs on them. The team from Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited had visited Rajendra Chaudharys house to recover a pending bill of over Rs 3.5 lakh. The family refused to settle the bill, attacked the officials with sticks, and set their dogs on them. The officials sustained injuries and an FIR has been registered against the family.
