KANPUR: Five teenagers drowned while taking bath in river Ganga at Bhairav Ghat on Sunday morning. While three of them were rescued by local divers, the other two could not be traced. Searches were continuing to locate them by the local divers.Officials said that five youths including Deo of Kaushalpuri , Krishna of Bamba road, Deepu of Rajpurwa, Asmit and Keshav of Kaushalpurwa, all in the age group of 15-16, unknowingly went into deep river water while taking a dip at Bhairav Ghat on Sunday. When they began to drown, the local divers at the river bank jumped into the water to rescue them. While Deo, Krishna and Deepu were rescued, Asmit and Keshav could not be found. Police were informed and a rescue team was pressed into action.Officials said that the spot where the youths drowned is quite deep and there was strong flow of water. The police are assisting local divers in search operation. The five youths had gone to Bhairav temple to offer puja, when they decided to take dip in Ganga.According to their family members, the youths had left early in the morning and were supposed to return by afternoon. Kohna inspector Rajesh Singh said, “The youths were in the 15-16 years age group. While three were rescued, the search operation to locate the two youngsters is underway.”
