Miscreants rob bank after hurling crude bombs in Kanpur

KANPUR:Three motorcycle-borne masked miscreants looted cash from Bingawan branch of Baroda Uttar Pradesh Gramin bank in the City on Friday afternoon after hurling crude bombs and opening indiscriminate firing leaving two persons injured.The police claimed that the brazen dacoity was executed in just few minutes. "Going by the CCTV footage procured from the bank, the robbers had covered their faces and after committing the robbery escaped on a two-wheeler. ""One among the robbers had covered his face with a white scarf while one other was wearing a helmet, entered the bank. "We are examining the CCTV footages installed at the bank and nearby areas.

The entire operation lasted for just few minutes, which suggests that the robbers were well aware of the topography of the area and had probably done a recce," informed a police officer privy to the investigations.According to SSP Akhilesh Kumar, three unidentified miscreants came on a bike and stormed into Baroda Uttar Pradesh Gramin bank in Bigawan area of the City.They allegedly hurled five crude bombs back-to-back and threatened other bank employees and customers before ransacking the cash counter inside the branch.The hurling of bombs left two persons including a bank employee critically injured.The miscreants thereafter fled on a two wheeler and while escaping they also resorted to indiscriminate firing causing panic in the area.Talking to mediapersons outside the bank, SSP Akhilesh Kumar said,"How much cash was looted, is yet to be ascertained."We are inquiring about the details from bank manager and customers.""One among the robbers had covered his face with a white scarf while one other was wearing a helmet, entered the bank. As the smoke engulfed the bank premises, they took the bank employees hostage and customers on gun-point and looted money from the cash counter and fled," said an eyewitness preferring anonymity.Police along with forensic experts and dog squad reached at the bank after being informed about the incident and began investigations.A senior police official however said efforts are being made to arrest the robbers."We are examining the CCTV footages installed at the bank and nearby areas. Massive search operations are being conducted at different highways to crack the case. We are investigating the matter," he said.SSP further said a man hunt has been launched with check points being set up at the district borders to nab the accused.
