UP: Snake bites passenger on board Sangam Express

KANPUR: A passenger on board the Meerut-bound Sangam Express was bitten by a snake on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The snake charmer, however, tried to convince them that the snake was not poisonous and it's bite would not harm the passenger. "GRP inspector Kanpur Central Ram Mohan Rai said that the passenger is safe as the snake was not poisonous. "Gaurav, a commuter from the city said it could have been a disaster had the snake been poisonous. "Doctors discharged him after giving him primary treatment.

KANPUR: A passenger on board the Meerut-bound Sangam Express was bitten by a snake on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The incident led to panic in the packed coach of the train. However, the man was later discharged after primary treatment as the snake was not venomous.The Government Railway Police said that a snake-charmer, travelling in the train, carried his snake with him.According to passengers, "The incident happened when the train was about to reach Kanpur Central from Allahabad. The compartment was quite crowded when a snake-charmer was displaying tricks with the snake. Meanwhile, one Shashank Tripathi, an advocate and a resident of Gitanagar area of the city, screamed that he was bitten by a snake. Other passengers caught hold of the snake-charmer. The snake charmer, however, tried to convince them that the snake was not poisonous and it's bite would not harm the passenger. But, the fellow passengers thrashed him and and handed him over to the GRP Kanpur Central."GRP inspector Kanpur Central Ram Mohan Rai said that the passenger is safe as the snake was not poisonous. "Doctors discharged him after giving him primary treatment. Snake-charmer identified as Pheru Baba, native of Shankergarh area of Allahabad district , was booked under relevant sections of IPC Wildlife act and later sent to jail. His snake was handed over to the forest department and wild life activists, who later released it into a forest cover."Gaurav, a commuter from the city said it could have been a disaster had the snake been poisonous.
